The Diablo series is undeniably among the cult games that have defined the evolution of role-playing games in the electronic environment. Developed by Blizzard Entertainment, the Diablo universe unearths a dark and gothic fantasy world that is filled with monsters, demons, and magic shielded by an intense narrative. The game aptly named after the Spanish word for ‘devil’ catapults players into a rich narrative fraught with adventure while tasked with defeating hordes of hell’s demons. With an impeccable storyline, gripping hack and slash mechanics, intricate graphics, and exceptional sound design, it comes as no surprise that this series has set itself apart and won the hearts of many gamers across the globe. The original Diablo game was released in 1997, and it mainly revolves around the unnamed warrior's quest to vanquish Diablo, the Lord of Terror. The game begins in the once flourishing town of Tristram which gradually became a center of supernatural activities. This single-player RPG game became a sensation for its haunting themes, an innovative character progression system, and real-time combat mechanisms.

The sequel, Diablo II, was launched in 2000 and expanded the narrative and world-building of the series.
